2024 has been a year of change for Subsea Europe Services. With significant milestones, groundbreaking projects, and the launch of a new subsidiary, we have taken major steps toward achieving our vision of simplifying marine data acquisition and analysis for diverse customers.

Business growth

In March, we secured a multi-million Euro investment that would set us on a new journey of growth. This funding has accelerated the development of next-generation platforms and sensors, including our state-of-the-art ‘Autonomy Engine,’ and new cloud data management solutions, while enabling the expansion of our expert technology, project management, engineering and administration teams. Our growth was further reinforced by our relocation to new headquarters in Rostock, Germany, ensuring our facilities can accommodate the ambitious goals we have set ourselves.

One of the year’s most exciting developments was the unveiling of FLANQ, a new Subsea Europe Services business unit focused entirely on maritime security and defence. Revealed at the EURONAVAL exhibition in Paris last month, FLANQ’s mission is to transform state-of-the-art maritime technology into the intelligent marine defence solutions Europe needs, now and in the future.

From January, FLANQ will become responsible for Subsea Europe Services’ defence and security business activities, allowing us to concentrate on our core mission of simplifying marine data workflows in energy and ocean science. This move underscores our commitment to innovation and our ability to adapt to the diverse needs of the marine sector.

Partners and project

Partnerships continue to remain essential to our mission and this year saw us expand our collaborations, including with RTSYS and R3Vox, to name just a few. Our focus on working with the best underwater technology companies enables us to meet the needs of diverse end-users by integrating the technologies and expertise our partners offer, with our own extensive in-house capabilities and technical understanding of the challenges our customers face.

The team has of course been busy out on the water this year, providing data acquisition and analysis services over a wide range of innovative projects. One highlight was the use of our Mantas T12 USV in March for a survey of Lake Schwerin with the University of Greifswald to the west of Rostock. Another T12 project involved deploying a tilted R2Sonic 2026-V multibeam echo sounder for quay wall surveys, showcasing our ability to adapt cutting-edge technology for specialised applications and deliver exceptional results in challenging environments.

Industry events

Throughout 2024, Subsea Europe Services was actively engaged in key industry events, starting in March with a visit to Oceanology International in London, we also exhibited at WindEurope in Blibao and WindForce in Bremerhaven. We took a stand at SMM 2024 in Hamburg early in September and returned to the same exhibition centre later in the month for a third wind industry event, WindEnergy Hamburg.

These events provided platforms to showcase our technologies, build relationships, and gather insights that drive continuous improvement. We got even deeper into the technical aspects in November, with a strong showing at Hydro 2024, where we had two conference presentations and conducted on-water USV demonstrations just outside.

None of the progress we made during 2024 would have been possible without the dedication of our talented team, the support of our partners, and the trust of our customers. Together, we have made this year one to remember and we thank everyone who has been part of the Subsea Europe Services journey so far, and look forward to another exciting year ahead.
