Ezekiel David has proven to be a dynamic and dedicated senior hydrographic surveyor since joining the team here at Subsea Europe Services in May 2021.

Having a robust educational background in Geoinformatics and Hydrography, with degrees from the University of Uyo, Nigeria, and HafenCity University Hamburg, Ezekiel brings a wealth of expertise to the subsea sector. His commitment to advancing hydrography is evident in his active role in core project processes, such as project planning/mobilisation, data acquisition, and data processing.

“The variety in this field is what I enjoy the most,” Ezekiel says. “No two days or sites are the same, and overcoming challenges brings a great sense of accomplishment.” His role as Party Chief and Client Representative allows him to ensure clients receive top-tier services while innovating marine data acquisition processes.

Technology has played a key role in Ezekiel’s work, with advancements in Uncrewed Survey Vessels (USVs) and machine learning making the data analysis process more efficient.

A significant challenge he tackled was managing hydrographic data acquisition from multiple platforms during bathymetric surveys, which strengthens the utilisation of remote/autonomous survey operations and reduces operational risks and costs, particularly in harsh offshore environments.

“One of the focus areas of my Master's thesis was utilising the Internet of Things and a ‘mothership’ concept offshore, allowing for efficient coordination and data management across various survey platforms,” explains Ezekiel.

The concept, which delivered actionable data using an R2Sonic 2024 multibeam was successfully demonstrated at the Deutsche Bucht Offshore Wind Farm in the German North Sea in the summer of 2023.

Since then, Ezekiel and his team have leveraged the payload flexibility of Subsea Europe Services’ MARTAC Systems built Mantas T12 autonomous platform to install a more powerful R2Sonic 2026 V+ unit. They have also innovated on different configuration modes such as the tilted configuration, to acquire even higher quality data than before, with no impact on the operation of the USV.

Ezekiel’s passion for hydrography shines through in his advice to those entering the field: “Be focused, pay attention to details, and keep improving your skills. The pace of change is fast, and staying updated is key.”

Ezekiel’s dedication to innovation, growth, and excellence ensures that he continues to contribute to Subsea Europe Services’ cutting-edge projects designed to simplify marine data workflows for diverse clients.
