Starting at Subsea Europe Services this summer, Wiebke has a rich background in maritime and project management, bringing a blend of strategic insight and hands-on experience to her new role as Project Manager. Her professional journey has been shaped by a series of diverse jobs, each equipping her with unique skills and a sharp understanding of what it takes to lead successful projects.
"In my professional career so far, I have worked in various roles that have prepared me for the requirements of a project manager," Wiebke shares. One position that contributed significantly to her career was Nautical Watch Officer, which underscored the importance of clear communication and agility in driving teams and projects.
Wiebke’s foundation in operational effectiveness and strategic communication has translated into her project management philosophy. "What excites me most about Subsea Europe Services is the opportunity to lead innovative projects and bring together the various facets of a project, ensuring that all elements work smoothly together," she explains. She also emphasises a structured approach to problem-solving and an enthusiasm for collaboration.
One of the most challenging projects Wiebke tackled in her career was the Ocean Open Lab initiative at the Research Alliance MV, part of the Ocean Technology Campus (OTC) Rostock. Aimed at creating a makerspace for marine technology, it involved organising a network of partners from research, industry, and public sectors.
"The biggest challenge was coordinating the differing interests of the partners from academia, business and the public sector," Wiebke said. Through a structured communication plan and regular workshops, she aligned these varying perspectives, establishing a platform that now serves as a pivotal hub for research and development in marine technology.
Strong relationships with clients and stakeholders are key. "I place great value on open and transparent communication with clients and stakeholders," Wiebke notes. By setting clear expectations from the beginning and providing regular updates, she ensures that everyone involved feels informed and included.
For those looking to step into project management or tackle similar roles, Wiebke advises: "Be structured, communicate openly, and always keep the project’s big picture in mind.” Her commitment to a thoughtful, communicative approach, alongside her passion for marine technology, makes her an invaluable part of our team, and a role model for aspiring project managers in the industry.
